who i am

I graduated from University of Northwestern in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in English with a focus on creative writing—specifically poetry. Poetry relies heavily on wordplay and imagination, using an economy of words to carry an emotion or topic. Everything I learned about this art form changed my world and the way I used language.

In my 15-year career as a copy editor and proofreader, I believe poetry has equipped me with a unique perspective and set of skills. I know how hard writers work and what goes into crafting the simplest of statements (even if stakeholders clobber it to death), and I can read from multiple angles: I see a writer’s voice and style, I see the overall structure, and I see the audience.

Over the years, I’ve worked in various professional spaces, from legal to advertising. Besides the nuts and bolts of proofreading for grammar and spelling, I typically also collaborate with writers on wording and style and have moonlit as a junior copywriter.

I’ve also always had creative passion projects that have ranged from an online magazine to poetry publication to showcasing my visual art. I find that having these outlets keeps me flexible and curious in life.
